Akon said on a recent interview with the Earn Your Leisure Podcast, “ If Black Americans brought their skills to the continent they could be millionaires in under 5 years”. Let’s see if it’s true. I am going to guinea pig on myself.

I am starting from scratch.

It’s been 4 weeks since I’ve arrived and it has been an eye opening experience so far.

The biggest revelation is the cost of living. More on that in the 3rd edition of the newsletter due to drop on January 8th 2024.

My Journey Starts In Capetown, South Africa

As an American you can stay in South Africa for up to 90 days with out any type of long term visa.

Starting the visa process is my second priority. My biggest priority was finding a need I could fulfill with my skill set.

Through my prior local connections I was able to speak on Robben Island and at a local township voter event where I was able to network and hear some of the reoccurring foundational issues from a government and township perspective.

This allowed me to devise a plan and entry point into the market place while leading with value versus straight selling.

THE GAP

The biggest unhunh moment was how far behind the Capetown business sector was with regards to digital content marketing in the tourism sector.

I don’t have an exact percentage but over half of the businesses that I patronized since I’ve been here did not have an active social media presence.

Why is this important?

Capetown has a 200 Billion Rand tourism economy. That is equivalent to 11 Billion Dollars in American money.

That money is going to be spent, the question is with who and more importantly how does this impact the small business?

90% of tourist local and international start their travel research on-line. If businesses don’t have an active presence online. They are missing out on billions of dollars in spending power.

Ironically I am here during the busiest time of the year. Christmas / Summer which means there is an opportunity for me to build 3 local case study’s to test my theory.

ONE BIG PROBLEM

I charge in US dollars and I like being paid my American rate. If I charge my American rate in Africa, most businesses will be turned off.

Sooooo here is my solution. You remember those students I told you about.

My plan is to launch the Milton Lawrence School of Content.

This will allow businesses to send their employees to my school so they can learn the skills to start creating content for their respective companies.

This also opens the door for other locals and government sponsored individuals to attend.

CAN YOU HELP ME TO NAME MY VIRTUAL SCHOOL?

Please take this one question survey and give your feedback.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

My initial plan was to come to South Africa for a month, then head to Ghana to Afro Future formerly called Afrochella. Next head to Trinidad 🇹🇹 for the rest of the United States winter.

I don’t like the cold unless I choose for it to be cold. 😂

After I arrived, I decided to challenge myself to see if Akon’s 5 year theory can become a reality.

MY PIVOT

I plan to stay on the continent, get the virtual / school set up and do my first cohort in late January 2024.

What about the visa? South Africa allows Americans to visit for 90 days with out a long term visa.

Because I am leaving the country and going to Ghana legally my 90 days starts over. 😁

Soooooo ladies and gents that’s the plan.

Next week Tues, January 2nd I will drop the inside information about the Visa process and how I plan to get my Visa so I can legitimatize business here in South Africa.
